Cohort #3 (October 2023)

Home Repair Training Program

  • Hello! My name is Bea Louis and I am an owner of a home and an investment property. Being a homeowner has led me to learn that being able to do basic repairs on my own is cost beneficial. Without the background or knowledge in any trade skill, I've felt held at the mercy of tradespeople, especially as a woman. I would like to continue to expand my investment portfolio and this set of classes has demystified home hardware and tools as well as taught me skills that have left me feeling less intimidated, knowledgeable and empowered on basic home repairs. Thank you, AbodesJoy!

  • Hello! I am Christina. I work in the accounting and finance field. I am from Maryland, and I currently live in Baltimore city. In my free time I enjoy anything active, from hiking, playing basketball and spending time with my two nieces. I have always enjoyed doing things with my hands and learning new things, so I am super excited to gain new skills to use around the house.

  • Hello my name is Desirae! I was born and raised in Baltimore City. I am a proud mother of three amazing adults! For 26 years I have been a hairstylist that specializes in Color and Healthy Hair Care. This is my third year as an empty nester and I am excited for this opportunity. Raising three athletic kids, I didn’t have any time to explore hobbies. Now that I have free time I am excited to be able to use my creative mind to take on some home repair projects!

  • Leicia is a single mother of an amazing eight-year old miniboss (daughter) and four-month old diva (stafford terrier pup).

Leicia has worked in Recreation the past 23 years and LOVES giving back to the community.

In her free time, Leicia enjoys teaching her daughter how to cook, hosting family gatherings, being a Brownie Girl Scout troop leader (we've got cookies), and mentoring teenagers and young adults. She is also a board member of several non-profit organizations with the goals of building racial equity, equipping young people with the necessary tools to become fully functional adults, and community engagement.

Leicia just purchased her own home three years ago and is looking forward to using these new skills to do small projects within her home, but most importantly to work with her three sisters to bring their mother's home back to its former glory as a family.
