Cohort #4 (January-February 2024)

Home Repair Training Program

  • Aimee is adopted from South Korea and grew up in upstate NY. She moved to Maryland for graduate school and has made it her home. As a library information professional she values how AbodesJoy helps women achieve home repair literacy and confidence. What excites Aimee about the program is learning new hands-on skills and safety information, as well as building and giving back to the community. Aimee works as a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility professional with the federal government. Home ownership and being able to save money on the home repairs, either by DIY or self-advocacy for yourself and others, is one of the key ways towards building and sustaining financial empowerment.

  • Hello! My name is Dana Ruan, and I am excited to participate in the program to gain hands-on experience. I’m planning to purchase business property in the near future. This program will assist me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to complete minor construction/repairs while networking with others. I am an HR professional with over 20 years of experience. I am a graduate from Strayer University with an MBA with a concentration in Human Resources. I enjoy spending time with family and traveling.

  • Outside of raising two children and her work as a Salesforce professional, Kelly enjoys gardening and following DIY influencers on social media. Kelly was unsure how to gain the knowledge to be more self-reliant and make repairs on her own until she discovered AbodesJoy! She is enthusiastic about using the skills she has gained in AbodesJoy classes to make improvements to her home and helping others. She is looking to gain more self-reliance in the coming courses.
